January arrived very cold
and snowy. As you know we closed
the Agency on Friday January 8th and did not deliver meals.
I hope everyone remembered to use one of their blizzard meals on Friday.
We made up a replacement meal that was sent out the week of Jan. 11.
If you did not receive your replacement meal, please ask your driver for
one.
It is a team effort when
making the decision to deliver or not. There are many phone calls made between
the Directors between 4am and 5am on those cold, snowy or icy winter mornings.
There are several factors that we consider when making the decision to open or
close.
First and most important is
the safety of our drivers, kitchen and other staff. If there is any doubt that
the drivers can safely do their routes we will always err on the side of safety
and cancel. Each of our staff
members is very important to us, their families and to you our client.
Without the drivers, kitchen crew, and other personnel there would not be
meal deliveries every day.
Second, we look at not only
the conditions at the moment, but the conditions that the forecasters are
predicting. Some of our drivers
drive over 100 miles a day to deliver.
We do not want them to become stranded later in the day as conditions
worsen. When wind chill warnings
are out, this also becomes a serious threat to the drivers being out in the
elements.
We ultimately consider you,
our clients. We know how you worry
about your driver when the weather is bad.
The phone calls we receive from you asking about your drivers tells us
that you would rather they be safe than risking injury or worse delivering your
meal.
Thank you for you patience
& understanding during this crazy winter weather.
Remember that if weather conditions are too bad
we will close the Agency and cancel meal delivery.
If we cancel meals, it will be announced on the radio WLOH am and 90.9
fm, and on TV Channel 10. In the
event that we do not deliver please use your blizzard meal(s).
These will be replaced as soon as possible following a closing.
Thank you for your understanding.
